It was our turn to write to the pupils of Serrekunda School (our link school in the Gambia) so we posted sixty letters from Year 5 and Year 4 this week. The children are exchanging details of school life in two very different countries, learning a lot and making new friends at the same time.

Mr Williams (Site Manager) is in charge of 'peering into cupboards with a clipboard' and even has a team to help him do it! Actually - the ECO Team are doing a very important job checking the readings on Gas, Electricity and Water meters to monitor our weekly energy use.

Long Jump, Javelin and Fresh Veg!

Bolton Music Festival 2017

On Tuesday night the joint choir of St Stephen's (Kearsley) and All Saints (Farnworth) performed at the Bolton Music Festival at Victoria Hall. Both schools also performed a solo choir song and all three pieces were beautifully presented. Well done to everyone involved.

Moses Gate Gravel Pits

Spent a great day with Year 6 at the Gravel Pits on Monday - a bit of pond dipping, a bit of conservation work clearing Himalayan Balsam and an alfresco lunch before a long walk back to school. It was hot but the 'ice pop pitstop' on the way back helped!

Lunchtime on the Field

We took advantage of the sunny weather at lunchtime by spilling out from the playground and spreading our wings on the field. The school has been working especially hard this week (SATs and all that sort of stuff) so it was a well deserved reward. Here's to a wonderful summer!

Lenten Tree - Part Three

This morning, Mr Williams put the finishing touch - INRI - to the Lenten Tree outside Kearsley Mount Methodist Church. We have now completed placing symbols on the tree as part of our exploration of the Easter Story. The rest (dressing the tree with flowers for Easter Sunday) is up to you.

Rainbow Days in Grasmere

We had a great two days in Grasmere with Year 5 last week. The weather was 'mixed' but that meant we were treated to rainbows throughout our stay. The children were great - walked for miles without complaining, ate heartily and were generally a credit to the school.

Year 6 Eco Warriors 10 - Himalayan Balsam 0

Despite the wet weather, Year 6 met yesterday's challenge of clearing a large area of Himalayan Balsam in the Gravel Pits with great enthusiasm. We were damp but not downhearted and really earned our picnic lunch.

I'm joining Year 6 for the day for a bit of conservation work. We are going up to the Gravel Pits at Moses Gate to help clear areas that have become overgrown with Himalayan Balsam (see picture). As it's typical July weather we'll be in waterproofs and wellies!

A Butterfly Fluttered By

Ofsted Report

Following our two day inspection in May the Ofsted Report is being sent to all parents today. The report recognises what we've always known - that St Stephen's is a very good school - and will be available to read on the Ofsted website from Wednesday 22nd June.

V.I.P. Day

We had very special visitors in school today. The Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton joined us for our Lenten Tree ceremony and then spent an hour visiting all the classes in school. The Mayor was very complimentary about the children and remarked that they were a credit to the school (and they WERE!).

Lenten Tree Project

Reverend Karsten once again led the morning assembly in school. After continuing the story of Easter, he was joined by Mr Williams and four Year 4 pupils to hammer three symbolic nails into the Lenten Tree as part of a shared community project with the Churches on the Mount.
